Fast.Forward from Google

Google recently partnered with The Wharton School to launch Fast.Forward. This is a channel on You Tube which carries short videos providing insightful perspectives from industry experts and academics on how marketers can stay ahead in today’s changing landscape wherein consumers are becoming more and more technologically savvy. Access the you tube site here.

There are over 100 short videos in the library. Besides this there is also a “barometer” which gauges consumer confidence levels; links to free tools designed to help marketers understand the online world a little better; and information on the Future of Advertising –a Wharton-led, research-based project. Also there is an event section which has some really extensive collection of vides from events like the Advertising Week in New York- so a great chance to ‘attend’ these events and hear about what the latest happening in the digital advertising space.

Procter & Gamble Co. is looking to hire five “Charmin Ambassadors” to staff its Times Square bathrooms this holiday season and blog about the experience. Successful applicants “must really enjoy going to the bathroom,” according to the website EnjoytheGo.com.

Yahoo’s First Global Branding Campaign

Internet company Yahoo is launching global marketing campaign to promote its revamped web portal and rejuvenate its image. Backed with a budget of more than $100 million over the next 15 months, the campaign is the biggest for the 14-year-old company and the first that is global in scope. The campaign is to be launched in the US by the end of this month, in the UK and India in October, and globally through 2010.Read more here via New York Times.

Over the last few years, Yahoo which before Google was synonymous with the Internet has lost its positioning as a leader of the search space. Interestingly it still one of the busiest sites on the web, with 581 million people visiting its news and entertainment websites every month, and its new CEO is looking at capitalizing on its size and scale- its aim as in the CEO’s words: ‘to be at the centre of people’s online lives’. So expect a lot of action in the coming months with site revamps, new services, better algorithms etc as competition heats up. Bing from Microsoft is already in the middle of its own $100 million marketing campaign, and Yahoo is going to outsource its search to it. Yahoo is going to concentrate on capitalizing and effectively bring together its Internet technology and communications services to its huge repository of news and entertainment.

Considering the fact that almost everyone at one point of time had a Yahoo account, the campaign just needs to get them interested in interacting with Yahoo again.
